9/16 How Long Does It Take To Do This?

At our first training session the girls had tried on a bunch of shorts, shirts and warm ups to get sizes but it turned out that the styles that they had tried on were different than what we would be getting.  So today I brought out the actual gear to try on and I thought that we could do this quickly before training started.  I should have known that the words "quickly try on clothes" don't go with girls.

I have been through this before and again, I should have known this would take a while, but I had held out the slim hope that since they had done this before they would be able to complete this task in a short period of time.  All we were trying on were shorts, warm ups, and shirts.  It really shouldn't take that long. . . Right? . . . Wrong.

The process for almost all the girls seemed to go try on every size that was there in all the gear.  Go back try on the stuff again.  Pick their sizes and have them recorded.  Then they would see their teammates trying on stuff so they would start to try on the gear again and go back and change their sizes.  Then repeat this process another time or two.  All I was missing was the blaring music to get me to that numb state you can feel when you are at the mall.

Luckily I had asked the girls to come out 30 minutes early to do a shooting session so we didn't overlap into any of our planned session.  Somehow we didn't get to the shooting session.

Today's session focussed on teaching the girls the formation that we were going to be playing in this weekend.  Our 4-1-2-3

These sessions were always my least favorite as a player because they consist of a lot of talking and stopping the play to move players into the spots that we want them to be in.  The best part about this session was that our field on Tuesday's is right by the MPLS airport and every 30 seconds a plane was flying over head so you couldn't hear what was being said.  As Cook led them through the session I wondered how many of the girls were actually learning from this and how many were just nodding their heads and counting the number of airplanes that flew over us.  I counted 34.

Hopefully the girls were able to take a little bit out of the session.  I like to teach most of the tactical stuff at this age group during the game to the kids on the bench so they can see it in action and put it to use right away so they will be getting a lot more info this weekend.
