3/12 Tourny Prep Session II

No one ever helped a disadvantaged kid by feeling sorry for him and letting him make excuses. Hard work beats natural ability every time.
-The Assist
Last week was relay races and this week I wanted to get a lot of 1v1 dribbling competition. I have tried to come up with high intensity work outs that focus on skill and one of the by products of the sessions is that they kids are getting into game shape.
Partner Juggling
We did a couple of different challenges where each partner had to do both touches with the foot touch being a pass to their partner.
-Thigh Foot
-Chest Foot
-Head Foot
Gates Dribbling
We had 20 girls tonight and I had each of them pair up so one partner was resting and counting for their partner while she was going. We did a number of different variations
-Dribble through as many gates as you can while alternating through different colored gates for 2 minutes. We did this twice and I had the girls compete against themselves and look to improve each time.
-During the first two times a lot of girls were running into each other or losing control of their ball so we did the same thing again two more times with the stipulation that if you or your ball hit someone else you had to do one "Up Down" and then keep going. I want the girls to be able to keep their heads up while dribbling at a high speed.
-1v1's. Next we had the girls pair up with someone who was going at the same time as they were and they battled 1v1 trying to get through as many gates as they could. For this it did not matter what color gate you went through. If the defensive player stole the ball she immediately looked to dribble through gates and score.
All the girls battled extremely hard during the gates portion and we really got a lot out of the exercise.
3 Team Scrimmage
The scrimmaging was outstanding today. There were lots of give and goes and excellent 1v1 play. It is fun to see the two age groups mix and be able to play well together since they have all been taught the same ideas and techniques.
