Ball Striking 11-20 Shooting From An Overlap

What every player should strive to achieve is, instead of worrying what your opposite number is doing, make him worry about what you're doing.  How is this done?  By having possession of the ball.
-Josep "Pep" Guardiola

We have been working non stop on combination plays but due to our limited space at Holy Angels we have not been able to go to goal a lot.  So I want to spend this session and the next one working on shooting out of combinations.  Getting used to the angle of how the ball will come to you after one of these combinations.  Today we were going to focus on the overlap.

Pretty simple progression.  We worked it from both sides with a dummy defender.

-We worked on the timing of the run.  How the dribbler can buy the runner time and space by dribbling at an angle and adding in moves.
-We worked on the runner getting as wide as possible as quickly as she can so she can create space for the pass and be running towards goal to strike the ball.
-Shoot far post since the goalie will be moving across the goal.
-We added a return pass to the original dribbler.
-Then we went live with a defender.

The girls did a great job today.  There was lots of energy and the street soccer was the best I had seen.  I left this sessions very excited about how we are progressing.
